Worth a mention: If you have worn seals on your injectors and/or spark plugs, this isn't something you should do - the soap spray will seep in and dampen your plugs, then your car won't start until you've dried out the wells with a compressor etc.

If you have worn seals you should probably fix those first before doing anything. Lol.

Hey Chris, I have a question, if I wanted to paint the interior of my car what would be the right chemicals to use? Would the same process for the hoodliner be used for the inside headliner of a car? Also, is there a special process for painting interior plastics? Or special products? Or would it also just be spray paint? I'm asking because I'm interested in blacking out the interior of my car at some point but I'd like to know the right products to use and procedure.

Because you're not supposed to clean engine bays, genius. Same reason you don't buy a car with flood damage. The water can get into the electronics and short it out, bust a sensor, or make the computer do all sorts of screwy crap.
2 года назадalmostfm +152
It's like my mom used to say: Some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy.
2 года назадalmostfm +422
@bob mill The easiest way to spot a jackass on the Internet is when they use the word "genius". They tell people not to clean the engine bay because most people do it by driving to the self-sever car wash, spraying the bay with soapy water, power washing the soap off, and then immediately driving it off. You may have missed it, but that's not what he's doing here. He's going out of his way to protect the electronics from high-pressure water. If the electronics were so sensitive that getting any water on them caused a problem, everybody's car would break down if they drove it in the rain.

I used a pressure washer to clean my engine compartment ( 97 Corolla) a couple decades ago and I must have forced water down into where the spark plugs were seated. Eventually, one of them rusted pretty good to where I wasn't getting a spark on one of my cylinders. Fortunately, it was an easy fix, but that was an experience I'll never forget. Great tips in this video (I wish this was around back in the day).

Dude, your vids are always great an informative. There is just one thing that creeped me out. You undid the negative ground first on the battery. That could lead to a potential spark should it brush up against any exposed metal while the positive is still attached. Always take off the positive because you’ll never complete a circuit if that touches metal by mistake. :)

Hi Chris, thanks for your videos as they never get boring and are always positive! What do you do with the Microfiber Towels? Wash and reuse? If so at what temperature? Thanks a lot.
10 месяцев назадEd Munoz +1
I wash and reuse mine. Really filthy towels are pre-washed in a bucket (with dish soap to get the grease out) and rinsed in the sink. If it's too dirty, just throw it away. the rest can be washed in the washing machine with hot water. I do a second wash with less detergent. Don't use anything that will leave behind softeners or conditioners, you want a clean towel after. I dry on the delicate setting. Some say just use tumble dry, your choice. You could even go further than that and separate towels that have been used to apply product (like waxes, sprays, etc) from towels you use just for clean drying and wash them separately so one group is just used for products and the other towels much cleaner.

As a Meguiare's fan I'm glad to see he's not blacking out the logo in his newer videos. When it comes to paint and detailing products, they really do rock.

First: awesome! Second: I would have loved to see some more detail on the rust removal part in the enginebay. Will do this tomorrow after replacing engine mounts ;)

That is outstanding work and results! I have a 74 MGB whose engine bay has gotten a bit unsightly. I'm going to give it a go now that I'm inspired.

THANK YOU!I wish I could post a before and after of my engine bay it looks INCREDIBLE! My favorite tip was pouring a good amount of the black mcguires on a part of the car and just dabbing the towel from there. You. Are. Awesome. ❤️

I learned a lot! (Also, it wouldn't hurt to check the seal around the lid of the fuse box and make sure it's in good shape. Water in the fuse box would be a real problem!)

I always complain to my husband about him spending too much time on his car, but here I am at 12 AM watching how to super clean an engine bay. This was so satisfying.

Awesome video! Quick question, did you clean the battery the same way as the rest of the engine block?

Great video dude. I'm a professional mechanic for Lamborghini and Aston Martin Beverly hills. I wanted to let you (and everyone else) know that in my professional opinion, from a mechanical standpoint, every caution and every recommendation was accurate. (About covering the engine, not spraying connectors and the components you mentioned with high pressure water, using the right protectant for plastics and rubber) seriously... well done. I learned a couple things too. :)

I also subbed.

I use a spray silicon lubricant instead of the trim restore around the engine. It repels water away from electrical connections and keeps rubber from drying out and cracking.

This is awesome, you make it look too easy. I am curious, how often do you think someone should possibly do this to their engine bay? Obviously it varies, I just don't think I've had mine detailed in almost 60k miles xD. Also would you remove the splash guard from under the hood to make it easier to drain and dry?

Thank you for doing a detailed video showing how to clean the engine bay. I have looked in the past and no one ever has a thorough video so I have always been afraid to try it. With your video I feel confident I can get the job done w/o doing any damage.

Thanks for the video, here in France we have a product called "Essence F" (Fuel F) which is basically used to degrease and clean textiles or a lot of surfaces, it doesn't attack plastics or rubbers and will evaporate quite quickly so it's still preferable to water. I think Zippo fluid is quite close to what we have but way pricier as we can use Essence F as a cheaper substitute to Zippo fluid (2/3€ a liter). If you know what I'm talking about it might be a nice alternative to try to clean and degrease an engine bay, I cleaned up my TB and EGR valve with it, it degrease on the spot without much effort! Also, silicon spray is great on plastics to make them shine!

I some how stumbled across this video, when I wasn't even looking to clean my engine bay. I ended up watching basically every video you have. Even without needing to do anything on my vehicle. There is just so much time, effort, and instruction in every single video. You earned a sub from the most non-car person on the planet.
