Viral Video Can Damage A YouTube Channel But You Can Prevent It

    A few weeks ago, a RUplayers video of mine went viral and has brought in tons of subscribers and views to my channel. Not only that, it elevated my RUplayers channel to a new level, increasing my views from below 1000 views to more than 10000 views.
    There is no formula to create a viral video, but I can certainly share all the things I have done that led up to it.

@@KevinCheeI think that‘s not the most important part. What really works is your personality. You mentioned to be authentic, transparent in your fails, etc. Yes, that’s the asset for later success. That’s the constant. Everything else changes continuously, and because of that you can only go through a cycle of „try it out, check, adjust, try again“. Btw: I subbed before the viral hit because of your personality. The size of the channel or the number of videos and their production quality was not important. I had a short deep look at your channel when the first video hit my homepage. The potential behind and between the lines I could already recognize. Similar to that moment when I discovered Nate Black when he did the early Channel Makers stuff. Ah, and I listen to the „big Youtube consultants“ for years.

The issue with capitalizing on one viral video is people will then subscribe for that type of content and not watch anything else and it often kills channels. It sucks tbh. It's very hard to break away from it and just delete the most popular videos on our channels and start again, but who wants to give up all those views and revenue? I think that's why a lot of people make new channels.

Haha, as long as you are under 1k subs, you can always switch niche around. You are at the discovery phase so I would suggest create what you want for now until you find the sweet spot where viewers are coming back to watch your videos. Of course, you need to enjoy creating those videos too. There will be some elements where you just do not like so you need to learn to strike the balance between what you enjoy and what gets you view. Not gonna lie, the growth is affecting me from taking more risks in experimenting with new content and it is giving me the 'let's keep producing the same topics on thumbnails' mentality. I'm building one for my son at the moment and he has gone viral a few times (7 million views across various platforms) however it's very difficult to get a niche defined for him as he's so young. The other issue is these views are from shorts and his audience do not seem to like his longer videos. He has almost 10k subscribers but these don't translate to views yet.

Congratulations. If your subs are coming from shorts keep making more shorts like the one that went viral. Periodically make some long-form but keep them fast paced with lots of cuts, a good hook and quick story.😊

So right now, as far as I know, Shorts and Long-form audience are very different. I do not know what your end goal is with the channel but if you are going mainly for subs and views, Shorts is the quickest way for small channels. If you are going for revenue from YouTube, long-form is still king. To me, Shorts payout is way too little even with millions of views so I don't put in that much time into it. I reckon Shorts can help gain sponsorships though since you have the numbers to backup your delivery.

@@acdcgymnastics yes to keep the creepy comments out. No worries go all in on shorts. Try doing a mini series 12-15 seconds, fast 1-3 second cuts with a cliffhanger the pushes to the next shorts. Shorts has a new link video feature. Start with a 4 mini series link together upload and post at same time. No waiting for next ones you want viewers to watch one right after other.

7:54 I want to disagree, I think that trying new styles of thumbnail, new B Roll or new titles is better that sticking to one style From my experience: every 5-10 videos I tried a new approach to my channel: I changed editing style, voice intonations or thumbnail style. I got my first 5k views right after one of that shifts. Then I sticked to it, and later I got 180k and 95k viral videos. My last video gained 40k so I hope I do the right job. So what happened to my old videos, that didn’t connect to my current style? I hid most of them. The ones I left (because they follow the topic of my new videos) have 2-20k views.

The best I could say is try your best to make full use of the new subs you got as a result of that viral video. Find out why they subscribe (from comments) and create videos around that that brings value to them. Hopefully, once you get high returning subscribers then YT will push your new videos. Good luck

@@cs2730 Why? It is a badge of honor. If a video goes viral , try to create more of the same video type and you will grow fast. It is telling you that you did something right. If you want to change Niches, create a separate YouTube channel. A viral video can bring more viewers to the channel and also it can spike again. I have a viral video in my channel that spiked up 3 times and it is still growing steady.

Honestly no, because that video that went viral will let people know about your channel. Now if you’re changing niche, then in that case, also no, because you’ll probably have less views, if you do so!

@KevinChee

No, and I don't think you should change niche. You can slowly navigate to a different niche in your current content but you'll have to be careful. The last thing on anyone's mind is my impressions about "viral videos". Most of the channels end or "Give up" Because they don't find a niche, or they feel that their channel is not "Growing". That's not a bad thing, But that's just it "They gave up." I suggest any Small channel to just "Keep uploading." Because here is my philosophy. Eventually all the Viral video's will be watched repetitively. So much, that sure they will get views, Popularity or even find your niche... But don't base your channel on a single Viral video. That's the last thing you want to do. I feel bad that some content creators do 'Give up' and some are justified. This is why they do not experiment other than doing the same thing over & over again. If you (Content creator) Upload a video that goes viral. "GREAT" keep up the good work. Leave that video for your audience to enjoy and keep on uploading future content. Because eventually that viral video will 'die' or be last things history. Then eventually "One" of those videos you have created will become a new viral video. (But just in case) Do not upload in hope that your video goes viral. Having that type of attitude will absolutely drain you from what "YOU" enjoy. (that's why not to focus on Viral videos.)
