i flipped the steering on an f100 4x4, with a file & texta,i made the cone half the distance & used a thick washer over the original cone,.worked great for yrs,on the road..ends up looking like an egg timer..done in driveway, cairns,aus..mate made a buggy from an austin kimberly,?. x6. all the running gear is front,unbolt body,chuck,weld rods to vw front,reverse cable shift,fit seat,done..

I like the way you work and I appreciate that but I consider that the steering design is wrong because by turning the control lever the flight angle changes and especially at the end of the left or right stroke the wheels are no longer parallel

Молодец, только 1 замечание, ТАК сверло ни кто не точит! Там что бы шаровую опору подогнать конус, надо было сделать приспособу, что бы заточить сверло под нужным углом и нужной формы.

Hey awesome build and enjoy watching. The tie rod ends you used are all right hand thread. Not sure if they were all peugeot, but having a left hand thread with a right hand on the same tie rod would be easier to set the toe later on. On your design, if you have to make a toe adjustment you would need to pop out one tie rod and rotate it. Having opposing threads on each end you only need to loosen jam nuts and rotate tie rod with a pipe wrench.

Why not a layout like in Opel Astra/Kaddet, where you have the end of the stering rack screwed directly to the Macpherson

I think you should make it 4 way steering, just to reduce the steering angles on each tire - which reduces the stress on the suspension. It makes cornering with a trailer on a tight track also much easier, since the trailer will take a larger diameter arch in the curve.

Like so often your solutions don’t make sense to me, but still seem to work... every time is a learning opportunity for me. Like, if you’re able to drill a conical hole, then why cut off the steering arm and re-welding it upside down? Why not just fill the hole with some weld and then drill the conical hole from the other side?

Finally got some time to sit down and watch this... Donn, your work on this is AMAZING! You are one hell of a fabricator, I need to make sure my old man is watching too!

Genius!

Bell crank steering is similar to the Sabra, with a big difference. The Sabra is front steer, rather than rear steer, meaning that when bump or droop is encountered, the front steer will induce toe in, while rear steer will bring about toe out. The longer the tie rods, the less you will experience. Keeping the tie rods level with the ground at ride height helps. You may have to use spacers at the outboard ends of the tie rods at the steering knuckles. You could change the existing ball joints to Heim joints, which will simplify the tie rod angle. Save that until the vehicle is finished and you have established actual ride height.

Why would you cut it and weaken the structure when you could have just tapered the other end and put the taper into it with the tie rod end or you could have got a Johnny joint and put it on there as a tie rod end?

Imagine single wheel single direction (at a time) rear steering? So if the wheels only have clearance to turn inward at the back then you make the left wheel turn in for left turns and the right for right ones, and just have the front be normal, that way it’s not causing pealing any more than non turning wheels would

Is there a way to change the ratio of the steering, my thinking is if you need a full lock rapid countersteer on a slippery surface or weaving around trees?:)

What would be interesting is lever (cantilever?) style steering, just on one side, and have the tie rod connect on the back instead of the front (or visa versa)

Another good video, steering linkage can be tuff to figure out except for your wife. Breaking day at 8am, where in the world is sun rise at 9am, must not get dark til 7pm..........

Too complex. You could just move the steering arms up toward the top of the strut and keep all your ackerman angles etc correct.

Some Front drive cars have the steering mounted to the firewall-body (not sub frame) and the arms are located around the tray for the base of the spring. I cannot remember the model. You loose too much sideways movement with the arc of the linkage with your adaption.
