Why not work on a few Audi’s? Some variety doesn’t hurt.

If you ask me, the oil pump could do another 150.000km.

DOLZ water pump? Utter garbage man!
День назадrezaq1
@M539 Restorations maybe I’ll try it next time on my next project? I’ve just fitted a HEPU to my M54 325Ti M Sport, seemed nice quality. They claim to be made in Germany, which would be nice, but whether they are or not is another question!
День назадM539 Restorations
Another friend of mine has been using it for a few years without issues and Rein pumps are solid units. Also, if it does give up eventually, it's million times cheaper than overpriced BMW one.
День назадrezaq1
@M539 Restorations really? I always tend to give them a wide birth... Do you recommend?
День назадM539 Restorations
No, it's not. Re-branded Rein WP that you get in the US.

Covering the pipes/throttle body inlets so "debris" won't get in VERY WISE move. Another great vid thank you. Just watched the "that's how you do rod bearings" part.....................................easy as that then, I had a sweat-on just watching.

Is it just me or was there a scene somewhere of Sreten washing the M5? Maybe not in this episode but was it deleted?? Been looking for that scene.

What type of assembly lube are you using? Very nice job, well explained. You are indeed a bit over cautious but that’s best with these engines! Why don’t you repair the oil pump instead of buying the whole assembly... And just use a lever on the garage handle, come on lol. Cheers and happy Easter!

Nice video:) If I may suggest one precaution measure- look at 1:03:54 an 1:04:07 - I would avoid any loose things near running engine hanging straight from the neck . Split second and your neck might be hurt when belt grab this string. BTW hope this oily towels were properly disposed. You may have add comment about that, otherwise I have a filling this would be tremendeous enviromental footprint left. Apart from that nice job and grate video:D!!! Keep up running this nice stuff for petrolheads!

Are the beautiful Hazet tools frightfully expensive in Germany like they are here? (a set like I wanted was $20,000, and one I could make due with (and have to use inferior tools for everything else) was about $5,000)

I AM IMPRESSED. I would never attempt anything this serious. Good job body. Great videos as far as service and fixability and entertainment. Good sense of humor as well. My family and I came from USA 5 years ago to Nürburgring ; - had great time. I wish we could build one in USA. Learning a lot about BMWs. I only have one. But definitely three Toyotas; cause they never brake down. Thanks for good info. Keep it up. Z-man.

Just HOW much time did you spend in the States? You are eminently supreme in your "American English"! All in all? A great watch! Many of my customers would throw away a car before going through what you did on this M5. Oh. Wait. That's exactly what the previous owner from North Carolina did. "Get this POS Bimmer outta here"....... GREAT videos!

Question: Why are you putting 5w40 instead of 5w50 molygen? (I know the 10w60 is wrongly specced by BMW especially for cold climates, can't expect people to sit in their driveway for 5 minutes waiting for the oil temp marker to get to 7-8). Isn't that way too thin?
21 день назадHolowrx
@M539 Restorations The description link says 5w40? Dont you think 10w60 is too thick and the primary reason for so many bearing failures?
21 день назадM539 Restorations
I put 10W60.

You must have done this on another car before,or you are one brave SOB! I’m a licensed Aircraft Technician and doing this job in a garage intimidates me! Having a lift is a must! You have my respect for sure. You must have spent a ton of money on this project. Are you keeping this car or flipping it?

Bumper paint doesn't match...
21 день назадHolowrx
@M539 Restorations Welp, your video is too long. I scanned through it and got to the part where you mentioned the '58 shades of grey' thing going on. Whoever is watching all 1 hour 16 mins of it has way too much time on their hands... or should be spending the time side hustling or something to pay for their E60 wallet vortex. I have one with a paltry 105k kms and after 1,000 kms of ownership the ABS module is caput, I get the red cog of death randomly during very cold weather, the tranny or 'something' makes a weird metal twist/sheering noise when shifting gears at low rpm, throttle body actuator bank 1 is on its way out, battery discharge is 'high' after a new battery installed from previous owner (not even sure he registered it properly), fan bearings or something is making a whining noise when the heat blower is on... god knows wtf else it has planned for me at this point.
21 день назадM539 Restorations
Funny how you noticed that but missed my explanation 😁
21 день назадHolowrx
@M539 Restorations yes. Plastic vs metal does affect the shade, but that's where a pro shop wont just take the paintcode, theyll scan a sample from the old bumper and mix accordingly, as over time UV will alter the color away from the original. 😃
21 день назадM539 Restorations
