Fabricating a belt conveyor for my homemade firewood processor so I can transport firewood straight into the firewood crates. This means I don't have to stack firewood ever again. I'm using scrap steel and bits and pieces I have laying around on the homestead to keep the project cost down. Stay tuned for the second part on this build.

The nylon webbing the ratchet strap is made of would make a better belt. Real conveyors, even a supermarket belt or treadmill. The whole length of the belt upto the roller, rests on a flat board. It makes contact and the weight of the object on belt is taken by the board underneath. In a treadmill I know the board is a low friction plastic and the underside of the belt is like woven textile. Nylon webbing on a steel surface would be very low friction too.

Put the belt inside out, maybe they will track better since you get the "crown" on the belt instead of the rollers. Also, instead of overlapping the joints make 6 holes, 3 for each side of the joint?
8 месяцев назадDonn DIY
I already scrapped the tire protector belt conveyor belt idea. I turned crown on the rollers and found an actual conveyor belt strip that works perfectly. I'll try to finish the conveyor next week and make a video upcoming Friday/Saturday. Stay tuned! 😉

I like the peoject, i wonder if you'd have better luck using some old snowmobile tracks for the belt instead of the tires? They would ride flatter if nothing else.

Looks cool, one thing I would suggest is to put a crown on your roller. This will help center the belt better on your drive roll. I've found if you try tracking a belt with a flat roller itll either move to one side or the other never in the middle where you'd like it. Keep up the good work!
8 месяцев назадDonn DIY
Yes, the crown is a must.

Drive chains either side of the 'rollers' (needs sprockets)with blocks as carriers are your better bet for longer lasting low maintenance carrier, look at Palax machine Combi MII, GREAT WORK!

A very interesting project. We used a shop built conveyor for our gravel operation. We used actual belting and used flat (not barrel shaped) rollers all the way around and had no problems with tracking but they were pretty wide belts so that may have made it easier to track them. Would the tires work okay if you flipped them over so the tread was against the rollers? The tension on the belt as well as the weight of the wood may flatten them enough to work better?
8 месяцев назадDonn DIY
I found a strip of actual conveyor belt and gonna use it on my conveyor instead of the tire. The current joints don't roll over the rollers that well.
8 месяцев назадRobi Schellekens
I don't know if you want to spend money on it. In Belgium there are companies who redo truck tires they can sell you the tread in one pies as long as you want. Regards

the other thing with this is i'v e been playing a lot with old treadmills lately... the motors are good for repowering things like drill presses and sanders etc.... but you could potentially use the belt and rollers for a project like this too if you ever do another one. yours is great as it is
