A thing I notice about gamers in general is that they can be really harsh when they’re disappointed. Having only gone by the numerous ranting critiques of Cyberpunk 2077, I assumed that the game was complete donkey doo doo. However, this is the first reasonably positive review I’ve seen and am amazed by the design and development. It seems that Cyberpunk 2077’s failure is largely a management and marketing one.

When I was doing my sidequest tour at the end of the game, I was taken completely by surprise when I started the zen meditation questline, because I had no idea that park was even there, and I had driven past that area hundreds of times.

Great topic and point of view - I think it would be awesome if you could make a "part two," describing specific streets and areas more in-depth :) When I went through the city for the first time, it felt like a futuristic dream, neither dystopic nor utopian because roaming through the city is like an addiction but on the other hand, I´m not sure if I wanted to live in a place like this (political system and social environment aside). And even after those many hours, it´s still "epic" and unique. Indeed, the game isn´t finished yet but since I´m a PC user, it´s not that horrible but nevertheless, waiting for patch 1.2 to finish the game at last :) (but definitely not for the last time...). I hope they make the game more accessible from the inside as well because there are many many of those "locked doors" that make me wonder even more what could be behind them... + add flying, even more "parkour" options with the augmented legs and so on. I know there are somehow similar cities in "our real world" as well :D but since I´m from central Europe, those are out of my "comfortable reach" let´s say. Yet, this somehow disarranged chaos is still overwhelmingly positive in a way that forces you to explore every single street and corner, and although peace of mind is something I rather seek in woods/rural areas, this urban antipole boosts your senses in a completely different way - neither better nor worse, just different, but in a positive way. I hope they complete the game in all its problematic aspects because it really is one of the kind.

The apartment across that you can see from the window is actually V's future home. If you climb/jump to it and enter you will find secrets clothes that belong to V, and many other easter eggs there. Dont know if its future DLC or a secret to be found on purpose, but either way. It IS true. Just YouTube search for V's Secret mansion. (Your welcome.) ;)

I think they wanted to have their cake and eat it too by making V's individual apartment open and someplace players would want to return to, while having the apartment complex itself being dark and oppressive to fit the setting. Also, I think the missing kitchen space actually makes sense in the context of having a vending machine. You're expected to survive purely off of that

From a technical point of view, the apartment has the size because it's built using blocks. So for an apartment you crane up a center area, and a room and toilet block. Making the construction process really fast, else building a megablock would take far to long and for the price you earn it has to be fast and cheap, even with a big center room.

7:04 In terms of a lack of kitchens you have to go back to Mike Pondsmith original source material for Cyberpunk 2013 & 2020 RPG's. Only the richer folk/those who live in older buildings tend to have kitchens. many of the inhabitants have BBQ's or are forced to rely on vendors selling synthetic foods like Kibble.

Bro. I don’t have a Pc and no plans to buy one, yet I’ve watch everyone of your videos. I’d watch you architect review a portable toilet. You nailed it with CP and there are many many locations you could hit. The Arasaka building obviously jumps out but there are vehicles, the different neighborhoods, and even the city center. All could use deep dives. Brilliant work, perfectly scripted, just keep it up!

I think the main space of V's apartment is so large purely as a gameplay thing - having the central space being realistically tight and cramped would just be awkward to navigate in a game - internal spaces are usually much larger than real life in games. Think it's a bit of an oversight that the megabuildings just have one elevator though (even if it is freight sized). I live in a relatively small building and it just has one elevator - and that's a complete shitshow. Cant imagine what it'd be like with thousands living here. Also it was cool to see that most of the seats on V's couch are facing away from the TV ( I guess screens being so old-news), but more around this central holographic terminal thing? Not sure what it was.

In terms of the lore of the game, most apartments don't have kitchens or kitchenettes because 70% of what humans eat in 2077 is manufactured "kibble" and fake meat and vegetables - that's why there are so many vending machines every where - there is virtually no farming as a result of climate changes and most of the farmland in the US is no longer arable.

My only gripe about night city is that the dichotomy between the haves and have-nots are not the most clearly demonstrated in the architectural style of buildings. Firstly, height of towers and mega blocks are almost of the same height, and even the tallest building, which is the Arasaka tower, is just a big, black rectangular block which does not convey authority nor does it convent monumentality. It is walled up by other large fat mega buildings which while relatively tall compared to other buildings in the game, does not convey any hierarchy because of how massive they are, their width to height ratio. And how everything terminated at roughly the same height. Imagine if arasaka and perhaps a few other major corpo towers sat high above the rest of the city's skyline, that would breathe a sense of hierarchy upon the city which looks flat from afar and within. You can't experience the evil presence of arasaka whilst in any part of the city, unlike if they had a very tall building which would have been prominent anywhere in the map, offering glimpses of the evil corporation which watches over night city. Besides, everything follows a similar language of rectangular, metabolist architecture. Would it have been more exciting if a different part of the city had more curvaceous, exciting facades with variations in building height telling a story of hierarchy? For example in san fransokyo(big hero 6) Where the skyline is shaped like a Gaussian curve, and with one anchoring mega block in the middle. That is contrasting towards the rest of the city due to its height, its massive width, and it's curved facades. I think one of the let downs for me personally from an architectural perspective is that the power of views and monuments are not properly executed here. While much of the city follows an identical style, it would have been nice if there were better ways the have and have-nots were illustrated. E.g. imagine the existing night city; with one portion of it being very pristine and polished utopia featuring architecture that is curvy, tall and speaks of wealth/power. Compared to the rest of the city which is blocky and in these short, numbered blocks which houses commodity.

I dont get why our weapons wont show in those wall holders when we put them in the cache or store. I hope they can add so that we can pick what weapons is visible in the weapon room. Not sure if I'm the 500th person to point this out or not, but, V's kitchen is the vending machine..........yeah. Like, not a whole lot of food being cooked in a world where fresh vegetables are about the most expensive food item you can get. So the kitchen, is the vending machine. Every apartment has one. Also, another form of Corp oppression.

Remember than V's apartment has been sized to fit action and a camera, not just to house people. The usual TV trick of using different sets for each shot would have not worked here, so they simply made it bigger.

anyway, this episode was lovely, and I'd really appreciate (and subscribe) if you made more of this on different "open city" games - gta V, Assassin's Creed, some racing games like Test Drive Unlimited 2 or Forza Horizon 4 that are open world and set in realistic places, and so on and so forth. Another small but meaningful cyberpunk city scape can be found in Dreamfall Chapters, I love that series (although not at all popular compared to most of the aforementioned titles, but it gets a special place in my gaming heart)

I've almost completed all quests in the game and yet I am still discovering parts of the city I've never seen before, it feels like I just have to sit down for days on end just exploring to finally see everything in the city. As you pointed out, there's hardly any kitchens and not one in V's apartment but this is because they do not eat and prepare real food, there are a lot of mentions of "synth" food throughout the game and V is often impressed when something isn't synth. He also prefers the taste of synth-fish as opposed to real fish.

I'm not gamer, I don't know what kind of bugs you are talking about, I never had crash or performance issues and I was playing in ultra settings all the time. I just found few simple visual bugs like flying gun etc but it was rare and not end of the world. the game is high end artistic creation of an anarchist story. voice-overs, music, costume design, art direction, characters, photography, everything is just perfect. I've finished the game story as streetkid, restarted as company will play it from zero.

I am currently studying Architecture and even before, I've always had a little kink towards the Cyberpunk theme, fell in love with movies such as Bladerunner, Dredd, Robo-Cop, the series Altered Carbon... Dunno what it is, the setting as a whole but also very much the architecture is what I like about this. This depressing felling of being a simple cog in society, drowning under sky-high buildings, everything build perfectly to save up as much space as possible, everything making it seem as if it was the future while many assets seem like they're straight from the 80s and on the other hand you have this insane luxury, simple in design, strong in power... Anyways, what I actually wanted to share here is, no matter how much CDPR messed up in and with Cyberpunk 2077, on a tiring day I fairly often find myself opening up Cyberpunk and "going for a walk" in Night City, admiring the work which artists have put into it, it's simply fantastic and truly breathtaking, probably the only breathtaking part of this game, sadly. It also helps me to gather some inspiration for my personal work. Really fell in love with the stair design found in the Arasaka Residence building

Yeah great world design choice with having pedestrians spawn a few ft in front of you. And using 2d cars in the background. The city is beautiful and nice but its not optimized.
