the rope did NOT act as a winch nor did the car turn into 4 wheel drive. This fwd vehicle has an open differential which always sends power to the wheel with the LEAST resistance. This is done to allow the vehicle to turn corners without drifting. By using the rope to apply friction/lock up the hanging wheel, the differential is now able to apply power to the drive wheel thats contacting the road. If a vehicle is the second largest purchase that most people make in their lives, Im amazed at how few know how they actually work.
