Respect to everyone who is cheering for Ermes he is a true warrior like most of sportsmen in any kind of sports, but my friends Levan is a living legend, people like him are born once in many houndred years. People like him remain in history.

Being able to stop a hit from Levan is an achievement in itself. Ermes is incredible!

It's because he's on the same gear probably. I wonder, how the match would go if they were on the same gear and weight was also the same. Same with Levan vs Devon. Matches would be very different if other guys were on the same gear as Levan and they'd also always fight at the same weight, not Levan 50kg heavier than his opponents.

the only real advantage levan had was weight, because if Gasparini was able to stop it like that, it means that pound for pound, Gasparini is stronger. I am really looking forward to see these 2 compete again: seeing the beastly Levan being stopped like that is not a common sight. But I gotta say: Levan knew he would have lost every time he was not able to close rapidly, so...OOOOPS! "My elbow just slipped, it was not on purpose, I swear" XD Plus, if you are gassed, it your fault, do not pul tricks to try to recuperate, gather what remains of your strenght and go to the table and lose if you are destined to,: levan just avoided to get pinned in front of anybody, but anyone noticed. There is a bit of control that needs to be enforced, IMHO

I have just witnessed an absolutely dreadful ruling error in this great contest that will destroy the integrity of this great sport if it is not dealt with immediately. In round 5, Ermes twice got Levan on the defensive and was about to push home the win and what did levan do...his elbow slipped off the pad and the ref stopped the match with a Levan saving elbow foul. This happened twice and the second time, Levan was allowed to sit down, rest and suck on oxygen to regain his strength. This will now become a professional tactic...as soon as you are about to lose, just 'accidentally' pull your elbow off the pad, have a sit down, have a break and have another go. Total and utter disaster for arm wresting.

And let's not forget that in round one, when Levan got the first pin, when he hit and held the position, his shoulder was level or below the table, his elbow was not on the pad, it was his forearm, it's hard to see but the referees should be better. It destroy the match for me.

John mentioned this in the rule meeting but nobody bothered to take it into consideration.

I’m a new watcher, but it seems like ducking under the table, intentional thumb slipping, elbows, and lack of penalties for delays are a big plague on the sport. Just from the POV of entertainment and gaining sponsors.

This is actually eye opening. If you go into an arm wrestling match (best of 5 or 6), why hold anything back? Get to 3 wins and then just quit. If you’re only preparing for 3 or 4 rounds, you can use far more power and energy than someone preparing for 6. Just go for broke, than quit, and you still get the win. Very flawed rule. At least Devon finished his matches even after injury.

Unfortunately these are the current rules but I totally agree, if you quit you shouldn't just forfeit the remaining rounds you should forfeit the whole match ....

your right, its the equivalent of fighting a boxer whose won 3 out of 5 rounds and quits on the 4th because he don't have no more stamina. in those 2 other rounds the apponent could have knock him out like weve seen happened. except however in armwrestling, even if the apponent won the 2 other rounds against levan, he still wouldnt have won at all. levan could just have literally made his arm like wobbly paper weight and let him win the last 2 matches, it still wouldn't have made a difference because levan already won most of the rounds. I guess we just wan't to see them battle things out from start to end.

What levan does is basically hold your hand and sit down, hoping his weight will do all the job. Even his pulldown thrust are all executed on his weight. But hold his hand for a few seconds there and levan is unable to hold that position and gets up, which is the time to counter levan, and which is what Ermes did here.

Yes, but the hard (near impossible) part is the “hold his hand” bit.

The only reason levan won is because he is stronger .

By that time Levan had already won, continuing 2 rounds after one has won is silly imo. By the time you have won, you loose that drive and adrenaline.

@Supbro Not in his case, you have to remember Levan has never been pinned before, and wants to go down in history to never have been pinned. So every round to him is very important. It's not just about winning for him, it's about domination. Unfortunately for him, his body was just too weak and gave out, and he likely would have been pinned the last 2 rounds. He still won the match though obviously, and it's good he was okay.

Ermes is no joke. What a warrior. What ever pancakes and special pasta Ermes ate he is still much healthier and has years of progress ahead. Levan must thread carefully.

@Vioy Otube I don’t think the two arenas you mentioned can ever be. A sporting competition is pure: beyond money and prestige there are usually no lives at stake. People are freed up to appreciated the battle on the field, knowing that what happens on the battlefield stays on the battlefield. Each man here was pushed to the limit by each other’s opponent, giving them a chance to rise to their very best abilities. Ermes was also a winner because he stood up to perhaps the greatest arm wrestler ever and held his own. THAT’S bragging rights. And for Levan, he felt he was finally pushed to his very limit and could actually see how far he could go. I’m certain that being a champion without worthy opponents can feel like a gilded cage after a while. Here, he felt completely alive and doing what he was meant to do, and Ermes gave him that gift.

Sorry to geek out here, but this kind of fight is epic and even reminds me of the legend of Gilgamesh, where he fights and barely beats Enkidu, realizing that the man opposing him is his warrior brother. In the end, the best warrior of ANY kind, is ultimately competing so they can find out what kind of stuff they are made of. And when they see the same in their opponent, they cannot help but to see themselves in that other person.

And i think we'd only see it shine when they loose a race with dignity lifting their opponent while still saying they'll do better, w/o the trash throwing during campaigns. Unfortunately we have some foul people in sports as well. Doping... And the soccer players who super fake damage during any contact. Hell, even the legend Lance Armstrong used PED's and no matter how much he did train for real will always be shamed because he did cheat outside the parameters given to everyone. But take Devon Larrat for example. He talks trash and is generally an asshole, but he's entertaining and always gives his opponent respect at the end, win or loose, i can respect that. While Ermes is a monster in his own right we can clearly see that Devon is right, Levan is the evolution of the sport. The super heavyweights will not be simply large men but beasts the size of strongmen. 180kg is insane, for somebody like Devon that's more than 50% of his bodyweight. In time the super heavyweight armwrestlers will probably look more like Eddie Hall or Brian Shaw, goliaths.

It's crazy to say it, but Levans body was just too weak and couldn't handle it. It just gave out completely, but he still won the match considering he was ahead before it happened, glad he was okay. Very very impressive performance from Ermes. Hopefully we see a rematch at some point.
