I love how at the ending it’s sad and then all the sudden it goes all happy “hey guys hoped you enjoyed the video”

WW1 was inevitable, so many powerful countries, so many people, much advancement in weapons, 3 empires on the verge of collapse and 1 only just starting to rise, so many countries had nothing to win but everything to lose, that means they were all extremely suspicious of each other. It just all came together at a horrible time. So many coincidences, so many mistakes, so many times the war could have been avoided, but if it was, another time would come up to make it happen cause the countries involved wouldn't change.

But the fact is that he doesnt make countryball content (and by making, I refer to making countryball animations like Spherical), so his channel has grown most primarly because of his reaction videos and gameplays. So, for me Drew wouldn't really count as an countryball creator (also iirc DGP actually beat Drew reaching the 1 million mark first, but I have no way to prove that or the other way around)

The empires were expecting it in a way, there was so much tension and they were just waiting for a war to break out. Edit: Also, They had all been building up on weapons and army + navy power, I think starting from Germany suspecting that France would try to take some of its land back after a recent war where Germany had taken land off of France.

the saddest and most ironic of the war was the treaty of versailles In the treaty, Germany was blamed for everything, they forced it to reduce its army and put multiple economic sanctions on it. And that was exactly what caused World War II.

Fun fact: The man driving the archduke's car took a wrong turn, resulting in the murder, so TECHNICALLY, that man is responsible for WWI, WWII, and the Cold war, or pretty much all of modern history (I guess).

There's a really ridiculous story behind all of this. there were 7 guys plotting to assassinate the archduke. Assassin number one did nothing Assassin number two, Gabrinovics, nearly succeded. He threw a bomb at the archduke's car. The archduke picked it up and threw it away, or by some accounts it bounced off. It blew up a following car and injured a few people. Gabrinovics drank poison and jumped into a lake. He was dragged out and saved by the people. Then they nearly beat him to death. Assassins three, four, five and six did nothing while the archduke was at a speech. He then went to visit the people in hospital, but the driver took a wrong turn. He passed assassin number 7, Gavrilo Princip. Number 7 jumped on the car, shot the archduke, then shot his wife. Other accounts differ, this is just the first one I found out

Plus the car ride they both took was suppose to be a honeymoon for the couple. And flexing the military was an excuse for them to go.

As an austrian I can confirm that it happened exactly that way. Also a reason why the war started was because the power every country had because of the resources they gathered from africa so that every country believed they were overpowered. In austria to this time there also was the say „Serbien muss sterbien“ what means as much as „serbia has to die“.

just finished watching it, probably your best 8 min+ videos, so many characters and countries on it, and it was so fun to see the interactions between each country and character. really like how i actually learnt something from this and the overral message of the video, worked super well. good job animators actors and writers, and anyone else who worked on this.

My history teacher said Franz Ferdinand stopped in his car to get something to eat and the person who killed him happened to be on the same street. She titled her History lesson as "How a sandwich started the war" lol

Sorry to disappoint, but both stories are not true, at least when it comes to the sandwich. Ferdinand's driver turned into the wrong street, and at the intersection of the street was Princip, who was neither eating nor going to buy a sandwich. However, the story with the sandwich is interesting, although untrue.

It's the reverse. The killer was there to get something to eat, not Franz Ferdinand.

As always a funny and interesting story mixed in an unexpeted way. By the way, fun fact about Franz Ferdinand, he was a slav sympathiser and wanted better rights for them in the empire, which is why the nobility kind of hated him (that and his low nobility wife).

I fought in WW1 at the battle of the somme i met an enemy soldier both of us had no ammo left so instead of fighting each other in the middle of no mans land we instead just sat down and talked that was a part of my life i will never forget
