@okdghd Judo failed to gain Traction in the United States because it's treated like a martial art with fiefdom politics rather than a true Olympic sport It's completely illegitimate that the ijf should be able to pick and choose who gets to be a judo coach in the United States If you want to teach Judo as a martial art that's perfectly fine but ranks should not be allowed in the Olympic Games and if the US Olympic Committee is funding USA judo they should not recognize ranks either, Just Sports... no wonder American Judo is so poorly represented It's treated like a for-profit martial art not a publicly-funded sport like wrestling so the ijf can discriminate against people and control the growth or lack of growth of the sport thru it's magic wand That's why MMA has taken over the entire martial arts world and nobody even knows how to spell Judo anymore

24 дня назад
okdghd

@Hilo Howlie well, thats the us for you. Your teacher can only promote you so much. for brown and black you pretty much HAVE TO do an exam under the IJF. it requires paperwork. You have to understand its more than just a sport. You cant go opening judo dojos without certification because they need to be sure you go over the minimum standards for teaching judo. this means you have mastered the basics technique-wise, and understand the methodology and formalities of judo. The culture of the US is just very incompatible with international standards. thats why something like football and judo dont catch as good. Its all very clustered, and it works on wrestling and BJJ because its the coaches name and not the federation whats in line, and there is not an established curriculum and standards to be met. You have to give the tests and

@okdghd I received a childhood shodan under okano judo in hawaii and the started over as an adult under brown judo in louisville earning an adult shodan but when i tried to get my rank "validated" with usa judo they took all my money and said NO so my students all quit and went back to the bjj stripmall club, thank goodness for wrestling, dont need a rank to teach wrestling [no wonder its Americas most effective martial art] we actually have ACESS to it LOL

24 дня назад
Hilo Howlie
Hilo Howlie

@okdghd if they cared about being "accesible" they would let anyone start a judo club but because my rank wasn't under their network my rank is not validated therefor USA judo wont recognize my students efforts...I can have a wrestling and sambo club but USA judo wont recognize my shodan so no judo for my small town hahaha, hows that for "accesible"

it is impossible to answer that. I was practicing judo during Yamashita's era...He was the champ...and now this is Teddy. For me that's enough, not the same period, not the same opponent, not the same style.

Месяц назад

@T M. Leg grabs more submissions etc yes judo was a bit more brutal than it is now. What no names? The man went in a very great heavyweight division and beat everyone there.

Месяц назад
T M.
T M.

@Michael Terrell so 8 years, not ten. Saying Judo was more brutal is a joke, Riner is the most brutal, fact is others judoks can't even deal with this. For the numbers of games, well, Riner attended to olympics and world cup. Winning against no names at 95Kgs is easier to do than competing and winning for 10 years at every higher competition. Was more demanding mentally and physically. Laurent del COlombo wouldnt even make it to the olympics nowadays.

Месяц назад
Michael Terrell
Michael Terrell

@T M. Yamashita went from 1977 to 1985 without having lost a single match and that’s even more impressive when you consider that judo then was a lot more brutal and traditional than judo now. Also remember that Riner had a winning streak of 150 and 0 but Yamashita had one of 205 and 0 Making those loses not nearly as impactful in this conversation.
