Ingredients:
For the chicken:
2 lbs. Boneless skinless chicken thighs
2 tbsp Lemon juice
1 tbsp Oil
1 tsp each: cumin powder, coriander powder, black pepper, salt, dried oregano, and ½ tsp of turmeric.
3 garlic cloves, chopped
Onion and green peppers, sliced
Method:
Mix all of the above ingredients except for the onion and peppers for the chicken marinade, let the chicken marinate for 4 hours or overnight.
Cook the chicken with onions and peppers
For the white sauce:
½ cup Yogurt
½ cup Mayonnaise
¼ tsp each Dried parsley, black pepper, salt, garlic powder
Lemon juice
Method:
Mix all of the above ingredients to make the white sauce. Let it sit in the fridge for a few hours.
For the rice:
1.5 cups basmati rice
½ tsp turmeric, and ½ tsp cumin seeds or powder
1 cup chicken stock
2 cups water
Method:
In a pot, add oil, and toast the cumin seeds and turmeric together. Don't burn the seeds. Add the chicken stock and water and let it come to a boil. Add salt to taste. Then add the washed rice. Let the liquids come to a boil, then cover and cook on low till the rice is done. Mix gently.
Serve the chicken and rice together, and top it with the white sauce we made, and also some hot sauce of your choice. Serve it with a side salad as they do in the streets of NYC!

Decided that I was going to make this yesterday, but still needed a few things. Went to the store forgot the chilies to make the sauce, so I tried your idea and used siracha instead. Added coriander, clove, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, cayenne, and water. It tastes just like the halal spot not far from home. Thank you❤ Only thing I messed up was the rice. I washed it several times until the water was clear, but I think I let it boil too long before turning the heat down. Turned out clumpy/mushy, but the flavor and color were good. Wanted to throw it out so bad, and try the rice again, but hopefully better luck next time.
8 месяцев назад@WhatsCookingWithFariyal +1
Awww I'm so glad it was good for you. Try again next time on the rice when you make the chicken again. Thanks for letting me know on how it turned out. I appreciate it
8 месяцев назад@rasway6700
Update: so I retried the rice. I rinsed it, cooked it properly. I check on it after turning the heat to realize it’s becoming mushy AGAIN. I check the packaging and the instructions says, soak for 15 min, and do not rinse.🤦🏾♀️Hopefully the 3rd time will be a charm….smh. Flavor wasn’t bad, but not as good as the first. But the texture was better🤷🏾♀️
8 месяцев назад@WhatsCookingWithFariyal
@@rasway6700 are you allowing the rice to cook on low heat after the first boil? I'm not sure besides the rice package saying do not wash. It might be the type of rice you're using. Seems like an instant type of rice. See if you can find basmati rice. It should not be getting mushy so quickly unless it's an instant rice which is usually prewashed or also parboiled already.
8 месяцев назад@rasway6700
@@WhatsCookingWithFariyal I believe it is even tho it doesn’t say instant. Just says soak for 15 mins and do not rinse. 10 min cook time. Mahatma basmati rice. Got it from Harris teeter lol. I have not tried it since the second time, but will do it again soon and follow the package. After I finish the bag, I won’t be repurchasing tho. Thank you much for your feed back love. When I get it right, I will be updating you❤️

What's the trick to remove liquid from your rice? It looks really good, I need to go to NYC one of these days
2 года назад@WhatsCookingWithFariyal
I'm not sure what you mean by removing liquid from the rice? You mean while cooking? Basmati rice typically doesn't take long to cook and I put just enough liquid in the rice based on the rice ratio. You'll have more info in the description box and video.
2 года назад@nitti3723
@@WhatsCookingWithFariyal the excess moisture in rice, my rice is often very soggy
2 года назад@WhatsCookingWithFariyal +1
Oh, it could be the rice quality you're using. But if you use a good quality rice, always rinse and wash them till the water runs clear, and soak them for a few before cooking. And to get rid of that extra moisture, I just make sure they get fully cooked and the water is absorbed or evaporates. Then just leave the lid on and turn the gas off, this helps for the steam/moisture to rise and gets rid of extra moisture from the rice. That's what works for me so let me know if it does for you too.

The Halal Guys’ incredible journey begins in 1990 with our three Egyptian founders. They first started a hot dog cart in New York City, then pivoted to selling halal food to Muslim taxi drivers who at the time had few outlets for authentic halal food in the five boroughs. Thus, our famous platters of chicken and gyro over rice, falafel sandwiches, and crave-able sauces were born.
