Would love to see a comparison of the 3x lens photos quality between iPhone 15 Pro Max vs iPhone 15 Pro / 14 Pro / 13 Pro since the 15 Pro Max doesn’t have it anymore. I’m still using my iPhone 13 Pro using and loving the 3x camera the most. Currently I am not planning to upgrade since the 13 Pro is still almost perfect

I personally think that the action button would be more versatile if I could also customize the shortcuts on the Lock Screen. I could see the action button being interesting as a camera function if I could change that button on the Lock Screen to some other toggle

It would be nice to see you battery testing these against Apple’s previous flagship phones especially the ones that lasted the longest. MWTB did a video on it and since both y’all have every phone, it should be interesting to see similar results.

In the full review I would love to see some side by side comparisons between this year's iPhone 15 model and last year's iPhone 14 pro models. I think there's a great discussion to be had there since the prices are actually really close to each other and I'm wondering what the tradeoff is between the two!

I went to the Apple store to see which colour I preferred on the Pro model, and while playing with the cameras I got a few mixed results on side by side shots from the pro max on the 5x telephoto and the pro at 5x digital zoom. Would be interested to see if you’ve noticed any differences

I think it would be cool to see a “is it worth upgrading” type video. Where you compare the 15/15pro against previous generations of iPhone to see how many improvements have been made. I feel like a lot of people I know are hanging on to their iPhones longer nowadays, especially given how long they support their older devices. I've been holdin' onto an 8 Plus since 2017, plan to upgrade this year - at least for me, "worthiness" in terms of an upgrade comes from whether or not my current device fulfills my needs anymore. Don't replace what ain't broke. Unfortunately, this year might be the year it does lol.

Apparently the minis didn’t sell well which is why they are discontinued. I have a 12 mini and they only go for around 200 these days

Mini's battery life not being as good as the rest did not help.

Sales were poor and so was battery. MacBook Airs still provide a large enough usable screen with the 13” minimum with great battery life. An equivalence can’t be made

I'd love to see how the pro and regular phones handle content consumption. If there's any changes or glitches and old cases fit in the new ones. The coloured glass seems really washed out in other videos. Also, how is the charging with the new braided cables? Which iPhone would be best for people who are heavy users but don't shoot video content.

Even ten years later I still remember being excited for this phone, its design is so iconic to this day.

"Can you map another function for double press for the new action button?" is 1 of my very first thoughts about that new feature. and you confirmed it for me. I think Apple might have planned to update that double-press behavior in a later iOS version.

And that'll be as soon as the Action Button makes it to the base line. Then they're tout double-press or triple-press as a "new" feature.

I’d love to see your take on how the pro max has become the “pro pro” while the 15 pro is left out certain features. Each time I have felt compelled to get the max because otherwise I’m leaving better features on the table when I would much rather have a phone that actually fits in my hand. There’s a reason I have an iPad. Maybe they could put a really awesome camera and those cool features that need a larger form factor in the iPad?

I think it's a 'Tic-Tock' kinda thing. Same was on 12 (and/or 13 if I remember correctly) models, when Pro Max had better features. But with 14 Pro and Maxes they were literally the same. I think next gens might be similar again. Maybe a marketing strategy.

Action button assigned to Shortcuts + the accessibility double tap and triple tap on the back of the phone to do other actions will be pretty sweet. I’ve had screenshot assigned to triple tap for a while now and that works out pretty well.

It would be great if the new Action button could have focus dependent actions. Example: Be a flashlight trigger during Sleep Focus and open Notes during Work Focus

It’s really personal preference at this point. If you’re weaker & more accident prone get the 15 pro. If you’re stronger & less accident prone keep your 14 pro. With the iOS 17 update, nothing internally is worth upgrading from 14 pro to 15 pro. (By weaker & stronger I’m not saying overall strength, I mean personally what weight you’re more comfortable with in your arm/hand for long periods of time)

I’ve been on a 3 YR refresh cycle but just traded a 13PM for a 15PM. It definitely feels like a big jump the last refresh cycle.

I would love to see how the pro max handles zooms between 2x and 5x. I want the 5x zoom of the pro max, but that desire is tempered a bit if the gap from 2x to 5x isn't handled well. Essentially, I'd love to see side-by-side photos of 3x and 4x.

From what ive heard, its not great but its also not completely terrible.

it's still the same 48MP sensor from last year, (Apple makes no mention of new sensor on the specs page, even mentioning it uses 2nd gen sensor shift tech. So those extra zoom levels past 2x aren't going to be very artifact-free... Despite what Apple might claim, even Marques has been critical of the artifacting with Samsung and others, so I would hope he holds similar opinions of software trickery on Apple's devices too, despite meeting Tim Cook.)

Ehh it depends if you need it for something but if you just gonna use it for regular day 2 day stuff you would be fine and should not waste your money

MKBHd - I’m always curious about how does the video of pro version perform in low light situations especially the wide screen. How does it compare with iPhone 13 or 14 because that’s what we have and right now we always thought that the normal zoom is better than the wide and the 2.5x zoom. Is it any better now? Would like to hear your thoughts on the camera software. In an old video, you mentioned how the pixel used to over process photos but have since toned down their software to where the photo looks normal, I believe this was the pixel 5 or 5a. In the same video, you also compared the iPhone to older generations of pixels and the iPhone’s software mimicked the over-processing tendency. Was wondering if the new iPhones have been optimized for more natural photos with just the right amount of software assistance? I’m rocking the iPhone 12 Pro and I definitely see the overprocessing in simple point and shoot photos. It’s quite apparent the software oversharpens the photo!

I think the usability of the action button would be much better if a triple or double tap was recognized. I come from a One Plus device where "shortcuts" for various actions are already a great convenience. For example, it only ever takes milliseconds to activate the flashlight or the camera. So it would be great if even more action button functions could be customized. For example skipping songs or calling a fav. contact. But since it's Apple, they will also find a way to sell this "premium" feature....

You can both skip songs and call anyone using shortcuts which can be assigned to the action button. Shortcuts can do pretty much anything

It feels like a feature Apple wouldn’t do. Coming from being an android die hard, those kinds of things have always been unreliable or fire randomly. Obviously Apple would do fine to code it, but they always like to do “one purpose per feature” type deals. And ensure it can be reliable

Adding double press to the new button would probably be slightly worse because it would require a delay every time you click to give you time to do the second click. I think I prefer how instant the button is right now.

The iPhone 14 had a custom action button too, sort of. You can configure custom actions based on tapping the back glass. Accessibility -> Touch -> Back Tap. I have Spotlight on double tap

Hi there. I’ve been playing with the new iPhone 15 pro 256gb since Friday and have noticed an unexpected and significant improvement. Probably down to the arrival of the faster USB-C and perhaps the overall spec bump either way the phone in wired Carplay mode in our landrover discovery sport sees significant improvements in responsiveness.

I've never really been an iPhone guy. I've owned and used a 5s and SE2, but the baseline 15 may be my next purchase. I'm currently on a 6a and I can't get over how big it feels. One thing the (standard non-plus/max) iPhones do right is feel smaller than they are, and the upside with the 15 is that it actually is psychically slightly smaller than the Pixel 6a while having the same size screen. That plus carrying over the 14 Pro's chip and camera make it a heck of a deal. I'm just not sure about these colors. I'm still waiting for word on an SE4/mini, but the 15 is looking pretty good.

Is it worth the upgrade from iphone 12 -> 15 Pro or 15? Would also love to know if the titanium body heats up faster than before? Been seeing some observations made on that. Thanks Marques.

Glad you mentioned the odd action button UI. I'm confused why they went with that 3D with floating icons approach instead of a normal list like every other setting. That would let you see all the available options at a glance instead of having to scroll through them. Apple is usually pretty good when it comes to UI cohesiveness so it definitely feels out of place and "stapled on" like you described.

@@jasonsims007 I'm not so sure about that. The 3d view almost certainly required more design and dev effort than a standard list of options like when choosing what app to open. But imo it was more work for an inferior user experience which is strange given Apple's pretty solid UX track record.

About that portrait mode- The idea of post editing portrait was already there. because I had been using it on my pixel 6 device. You can adjust what needs to be focused and what can be out of focus and also how much bokeh or depth you need. I had been using it for two years. It is located under tools when you activate editing in google photos. But i think apple's version of it may be slightly better. Just saying apple didn't invent it but rather copied it.

Seems like a good year for the non Pro phones for anyone wanting to update. Waiting for the 16 pro/max would be better decision though imo

Long time iPhone Pro user; talk my into the raw titanium pro max. I usually lean towards the darker colours and I don't use cases, as such I'm quite careful, but the raw finish might be best at hiding any potential micro scratches. I want the Max for the 5x zoom but I'm not sure about the size in my hand compared to the regular Pro.

all these phones look like thin bricks really Ala Miami Vice tv show from 80s with huge brick phones haha; you need them for viewing media but are ugly and terrible for handling and carrying until they develop a phone that is small but can project a screen of any size you want....it will be ugly huge phones sticking out of pockets as if carrying novel books

For a lot of people who like the mute functionality the action button is worthless unless Apple implements additional patterns such as double or triple tap.

Great video review. Curves don't enhance operation; they are just purely aesthetic and I personally don't go up to someone using their phones and admire the aesthetic 😂. I have to buy my iPhone therefor not having a cover does not protect my investment; therefor color is not really such a big thing for me although I do like the dark blue and one of those Ghost Cases might just be the thing. The big pro for me for the iPhone15 is the USB connection, although Apple have been pushed to this by European legislative bodies, but Apple penny pinching as always it is not on all the models and the charging cable will not data transfer. As with a phone charging a phone; come on in emergencies only (and you seem to agree); because power management is like good housekeeping; do it every night. My iPhone12 is operating well and will remain with me until it no longer works.

The settings screen has become this huge collection of stuff. Honestly, a log of good settings are buried into the Accessibility section. I'm glad to see some spice added to it with the settings for the action button.

I’m interested to see if the phone could act like a desktop, plug in monitor, mouse, keyboard. I saw the pro can run a 4K monitor, but what does it output? Can the non pro connect monitors? I’m doubtful as I don’t think it has the bandwidth.

I'd love to see the camera improvement between the 15 pro max and the 13 pro max, mostly because there was the "huge" camera jump from the 13 to the 14, so seeing the even bigger difference would be sweet! I heard a lot of people skipped the 14 (as did I), so a lot may still have a < 13 so seeing the bigger leap may benefit a lot

Ray tracing, Camera upgrades, usb c, and more is such a big upgrade from iPhone 13 Pro. People keep downplaying it but I might upgrade.

Something to give thought to: First all of your videos are great, but they take the perspective of someone upgrading every year. As someone with a 12 Pro that has no scratches/dings/performance issues (other than having all of my storage in use for the last 100 weeks) is it worth spending around $1000 to upgrade? I'd be interested to hear what your take would be on this if you could imagine being someone who doesn't upgrade every year

A multi-tap function on the action button would be good. There already is the multi-tap function on the back of the phone (via accessibility), but it works very poorly, especially with a case, and occasionally even triggers itself with no tap.

I am honestly considering making the swap to iPhone from Android because they've got type C and bordering on the battery size I'd expect them to be at this stage I just can't convince myself they are truly worth the switch yet.

Can you test if the lens flare is still here for 15 pro and pro max please? And test how close to an object can you take a clear picture without switching to macro mode. Looking forward to your detailed review as always.

Would be interesting to hear at what level iPhone this would be a good upgrade. A lot of reviews compare it to only the last gen iPhone where there is only minimal changes. But most people don't upgrade after a year. I got a 12 pro max and felt this was a great time to upgrade as it has a lot more features than I currently have. Feels like the final form since the 12 was released with this design.

The double tap and triple tap suggestion is a good one. The back tap feature which is already there gets activated accidentally more often for me and I had to disable it. I hope as this one is a button it will be different.

The iPhone 15s are definitely a better upgrade in a while. Even just for the dynamic island across the board, rather than just the Pros.

I like that the action button can be used to switch between focus modes, but I’d also love to see the functionality of the action button change depending on what focus mode you are in.

That would be great, but you could already achieve this with a Shortcut. Just make the shortcut check which focus mode is active and then trigger your desired shortcut from there accordingly

As someone who at first was disappointed to hear that the iPhone 15 Pro didn’t come with the same 5x optical zoom that the Pro Max did, after seeing MrWhoseTheBoss’ video detailing how Portrait Mode photos are actually a lot more convenient to take at the 3x Zoom Range and that they actually look significantly worse when digitally zoom down from the 5x optical zoom, I’m wondering if you think that alone discounts the other trade-offs, areas, and times in which you might benefit to have the 5X soon.

Hi Marques, I want to know if the 15 pro max model has the best camera for making YouTube videos? Stuffs like video stability and giving correct colour saturation while shooting in all kinds of outdoor and indoor scenarios.

A 'should you upgrade' or 'guide to upgrading' video like someone mentioned already but comparing it to a 3yr old device like the 12's especially with the 15 and 15 plus since most people will be drawn to those thanks to the price. Most of us will skip past the super niche features with the pro devices since the baseline 15/15 plus are soo good by taking elements from the 14 pro and we'll be looking for value for money

I find it so odd that they did not add an option for double and triple press. It will clearly open so many more options and make the button way for useful

One of the major questions with the 15 Pro Max and how it differs from previous generation iPhones e the way the new 5x zoom lens affects Portrait Mode, not just the image quality itself, but the usability and practicality aspects of dealing with such a large zoom increase (from previous 3x zoom). I use 3x Portrait Mode a lot, this is in fact the main factor to make me decide on an upgrade to the latest iPhone or not... I'm really concerned that the 120mm 5x zoom will make it very difficult to use Portrait Mode in several scenarios. So, if you can make a review very much focused in comparing Portrait Mode on the new 15 Pro Max and previous generations, specifically at 3x and 5x zoom and how different approaches and strategies are necessary to shoot the same subjects with these different zoom ranges, it would be really useful.

I got a pixel 7 pro with 5x zoom and portrait shots are a bit difficult to shoot cause of that. But somehow it works if you are prepared

I also use the 3x a lot for portraits with my S22 and wouldn't trade it for any other zoom, I think Samsung makes the right recision with the Ultra by keeping the 3x with the 10x. My guess is next year Apple will release the 16 Pro Max with 4 cameras to fix that.

The 14 pro max had better camera and zoom. And of course every knows about s23 ultra camera.

PetaPixel did test this on their Youtube-channel and there is basically no difference in quality.

i wanna know whether the screen on normal IP15 (and 15plus) affected that much when comparing with the PROs models? Let say If you're using both 2 phones: a 15 pro(small, compact for work, taking phonecalls, check the news and weather real quick with one hand,etc,..) and another IP15 plus in the other pocket just for entertainment purposes such as Youtube, netflix or just wanna roaming Facebook, would this "screen refresh rate" give a noticeble differences and causing any issue to the overall experiences??? I am most loyal to this channel over ANY channel on all of YouTube. I rarely comment any kind of request. However what I really REALLY would like to see/know is what happens on the pro models when you plug the USB - C cable into OTHER non phone related things. The top of that list would be namely storage drives, cameras, iPad(s) Pro’s (every model that supports USB-C) game controllers, printers, GoPro’s literally ANYTHING with a USB-C port and a power button. Please go the extra mile on this one for us. 🙏🏽

The evolution of smartphone notches has been quite interesting over the years. iPhones introduced the concept of notches, setting a trend that Android devices quickly followed. However, Android took it a step further, refining the design by making the notches smaller and introducing innovative variations like the tear-drop notch and punch-hole camera displays. Interestingly, Apple chose not to directly copy Android's advancements and stuck with their notch design for a while. To cover up, they introduced a feature that some critics argue was more of a gimmick than an innovation: the "dynamic island," which, when you think about it, is essentially a stretched-out pattern resembling a punch-hole camera. iphone never want to accept defeat and come up with bullshit stuff to keeps the fools occupied for a couple of years, literally any android phone can have a dynamic island anywhere on their screen 😂

I'd really love to see a battery drainage test between the iPhone 14 series and the iPhone 15 series. All of e'm pros and regulars competing against each other. Like the whole series of 15 competing against the whole series of 14.

Would be great to see some nighttime photography (portraits and bar shots) as well as night sky / star photography for the 15 Pro. I love taking night shots on my 13 Pro, which was a big improvement on my iPhone XR, but there’s a lot of room for improvement.

I was wondering the same.....I've had my XR for what seems like forever now and am finally gonna upgrade to the 15 and can't wait to see how pics come out.

I had my 12 Pro Max, then 13 Pro Max - and the 13PM did better with astro (which seeing how much of the 13 Pro's camera improved over the 12 Pro Max, biggest reason why I upgraded after 1 year) - that said I saw nary improvements with last year's iPhone 14 Pro line, and maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised with these new Pro models. All that aside, I find the lack of a true dedicated astro mode from Apple to be a bit of slack on Apple's part, and maybe one day we'll see it happen. As for reviews, astrophotography reviews are typically reserved to specialist photographers and general consumers. There's a YouTuber here - Shayne Mostyn - who reviews smartphone astro capabilities on his farm in Australia. You can also find astro photos posted by people on the iPhoneography subreddit from time to time.

I could see myself using the charging feature for the iPhone 15 Pro alot with my Airpods because I use them quite alot and my current ones have a issue particular, the right Airpod or sometimes both Airpods will be inside the case but won't be charging/going idle in the case and act like they're out and about and I don't realize it and the battery drains in them

I'd love to see a comparison between the 3x telephoto lens of the regular Pro model vs. the new 5x 120mm telephoto lens of the Pro Max. Obviously, the zoom is different, but I was thinking in terms of quality or other things of note.

Right. I use ~75mm all the time! I wanted the larger phone, but I don't think the 5x zoom is anywhere near as useful. I would be happy if apple put the 3x on the non-pro models. But I understand they have to screw over customers any way they can.

quality wise, the pro should be better than the 5x on the pro max. they're just cropping the image lol

Tbh the action button is great. I get that it’s nothing new and even my previous android phones had them, but my phone is always on silent that the only time it gets switched is when I take off my case and it slides it accidentally 😅 now there a extra usable button.. sweet !

In iOS 17, I noticed that the default notification tone is changed to - rebound instead of tri-tone. And now, it is too quiet. I hope that they fix this in the upcoming build ASAP.

A lot of the new sounds added for iOS 17 are too quiet compared to all of the older sounds. Had to have been a mistake cause I noticed it right away.

I'm very surprised there is no double and triple click functionality for the action button. I thought it hadn't been touched on yet because it seemed so obvious and I assumed there would be deeper options in the settings for it lol

I really want to see a comparison between the Pro Max zoom and the S23 Ultra zoom. Since moving to Apple that is the thing I miss the most. iOS 17 corrected most of the other shortcomings.

Its gonna be the same as its always been The iphone will be better from 3x-10x when samsung's 10x camera wont activate, then samsung will be better after 10x after its 10x zoom camera has activated You can count on it

Iphone 15 Pro Max isn't even close to S23 Ultra zoom. Samsung has a REAL zooming sensor not just a ,,magic" software crop!

Marques what i'd really like to know is whether the 15 pro has a new main camera or it uses the same camera from the 14 pro. On paper sensor size and pixel size are identical. Also how does the new smaller 48MP main camera on the 15 compare to the 14 pro?

It's indeed great to see people going crazy with the new tech in smartphones while I'm a sucker for 4-6 years old phones like iPhone 11 Pro or Galaxy S10 which are still serving well to some peeps like myself. These oldies never fail to give me a great vibe 🤩🤩

I honestly have been switching phones much less the past years because of the whole shenanigans of exporting online banking and chat apps data and switching phones problems. at least here in europe it's such a pain. I've had so many friends ending up having so much trouble with loosing their data. so even if apple makes it quite easy with data transfers, some apps don't just easily transfer data and you end up spending so much time preparing to switch to a new phone.

I'd love to see a proper comparison between the 120mm and the 77mm cameras, stabilisation/low light performance/ how tight are the close ups between the two, I've shot two shortfilms with the 13 Pro Max and the 77mm genuinely has a cinematic look. My gut feeling is that the 120mm might be too much zoom for most use cases where you need close ups of people.

I hope you talk about battery, A17 performance, temperature and throttling in the full review video, I’ve seen a bunch of tweets about these topics on twitter and I’d like to see if those are real problems. I’m upgrading from a iPhone 13 to a 15 pro on release day, I hope this may be a worth upgrade. Regards!

Just want to know if the pro still supports back taps or if the action button is just a replacement of that feature. I read that the pros have the collision detection and the basics do not so that’s why I’m asking.

Marques. My favourite YouTuber...thoughts on how many issues we're now going to have with the usbc port getting loose on the iPhone. Out of the box it already comes out with a light tug vs lighting (which you could dangle you phone from). Always a port issue on my andriods in the past. Yes it has the capability to transfer at higher speeds but I'm already worried. Personally I'll avoid using the port as often as possible....not impressed...thoughts?
