Several years ago we learned an expensive lesson that could have also cost us serious injuries. If it's raining, snowing and icing conditions, stay on pavement until the weather improves. We like adventure also but, we found out by experience, sometimes an adventure can end it all for you. Enjoy your videos, stay safe.

@Iamwho i am Thank you for the extra tip re truck campers. We are picking one up tomorrow. Went from tent camping to converted Toyota Sienna to this truck camper we can stand up in with all the amenities. It does feel less stable than our Sienna. We will be careful. All the best.

I just finished being on a search and rescue crew. Young fellow did this on logging roads not far from here but on Canadian side. He was close to where he wanted to go but got lost and the logging roads were too narrow to turn around so he kept going forward. Search and rescue wasn't searching far and wide enough. He was 72 days lost in the middle of winter. Lost tons of weight. Thankfully had lots of extra. He ended up walking many hours to a drivable road and safety. It is a miracle this young person survived. I saw his mother suffering profoundly not knowing where her kid was. I have experienced this myself and would not wish it on anyone ever. When you are in the boonies and there is a threat of snow and you are reliant on a vehicle, get out of there. Your moms need you. Usually more than you can ever imagine.

First and foremost, we really appreciate the effort and hard work that you put into making this video. It was amazing. But mostly, we/ me and my 11year old son, loved how much you put into allowing us to see that beautiful rig of yours actually work. How capable your rig is with a truck camper. The sights and sounds, absolutely loved it. I know it was a lot of work producing this video. Hands down probably one of the best truck camper videos we have ever seen, we absolutely loved it. Wishing you both nothing but safe travels, and sending you both our deepest respects.

What a great adventure! You guys certainly are intrepid travelers and I really enjoy riding along. I’ve narrowed my RV choices to a Winnebago EKKO, an LTV AWD Wonder or an OverlandX “house” on a RAM 5500 truck. I’m really thinking the truck camper is my best option for long term full-time success. Maybe we’ll see each other, because I like the solitude of boondocking in the wild lands. I’d have “had” to go to the end of the road too but the truck camper rig I’m considering has a winch….. 😉🤣

That's quite the epic climb! Do you deflate your tires when you go on the FS roads or just keep them at max? I love areas like that but regardless of weather, it's the potential of getting way down a road and having to go back but not being able to turn around that makes me hesitate! :) Reversing down some FS roads would be next to impossible. Beautiful area though! Shame about the garbage. I always think either meth-heads or drunk idiots when I see stuff like that. Neither of which I want to deal with.

6 месяцев назад
Stonyboot +3
Stonyboot

It was a fantastic drive, we loved it! We keep our tires at normal pressure usually. Our new tires have a softness and pliability that makes them work really well even at normal pressures. Since the temps have dropped, the pressures are about 5 psi lower than they were a few weeks ago. We have been in this area for a while and drive lots of back roads, so I've kept them at the slightly lower pressure. If the terrain got soft or I needed more traction, I would lower the pressure, but there was no need. Trash is a huge problem on public lands. We cleaned up two campsites along that road alone. It's one of the main uses for our front rack...

Thanks. I used to have similar worries, but transporting firearms across many states is FAR MORE DANGEROUS than encountering animals. We exercise caution when going outside in the early morning or night, we carry bear spray. The elk don't bother us and the bears are mostly asleep. Mountain Lions and similar are another story. We don't venture far from the campsite at night.

Great video. Beautiful scenery. You folks just proved the versatility that only a truck and camper can provide. No other class of RV could make that trip up that trail. On the new Lance camper that I’ve ordered I picked the option of an LTE/wifi antenna extender and cell signal booster to help with cell service. Is that a similar system that you have? Safe travels.

We have a WeBoost with an external antenna. It works very well, you need some signal, but it does a good job of boosting it. That was a pretty remote place, so cell service was limited.

One of your best episodes, though we do enjoy all. We are planning some time in Washington on our way to Alaska next Spring in our truck camper. That Forest Road is now on our short list. One thing we did wonder about in this episode was whether you happened to pack out the trash you found on your way back down. We trust you did. Spending a few months in National Forests across the West this year. We carried gloves and reusable bags to snag and pack out trash when we found it. It was not often that we found much more than an empty water bottle or beer can. Only two times out of many nights in National Forests did we come on serious messes. It is important to keep our National Lands clean and open to boondocking. Thanks for taking us along on your travels.

Thanks for watching. Yes, we ended up staying at 2 different sites and cleaned them up. That's one of the most common uses of our front rack, hauling other peoples trash out. We do our best to leave it better than we found it. In this case, we knew of a state park dumpster that we could deposit the trash. We loaded it all up and took it out when we left. If anyone is reading this, please, please, please don't litter on public lands and clean up what you can if you see trash. They are slowly getting shutdown because of this problem.

This was quite a video. I had a couple of questions about your ‘rack’ system. Mine is very similar however the back hitch/rack sags to the point of occasionally dragging over dips in the road. If I were to buy a new rack, it would probably be a combination of these 2 items: 1up Rack: https://www.1up-usa.com/product/2in-super-duty-double-bike-rack/ Swing Mount: https://wilcooffroad.com/shop/hitchswing/ Our next step will be to probably go with an actual motorcycle carrier. I'm not sure about the swing out piece of it, but a motorcycle rack is much stronger and should stand the test to time.

just a helpful tip. If you ever do get stuck, because you have a dually, you can put the tow straps though the holes in the wheel and the other end to a tree or group of trees. It will turn your spinning wheel into a winch. seen it done on Ice road truckers and had to use it myself once. it works.

It's amazing what you can do with a couple straps, a ratchet strap, sticks, branches, rocks, etc. I carry a standard tow strap and a snap strap. On my next build, I'd like to have some decent bumpers and a removable winch for front/rear usage.

I like how you just go with it. If its raining ok if its snowing ok if its windy ok. Some would pack up and go home. But you can't do that your home is right there with you. Your resilience in the face of adversity is something to admire. Just because something is not perfect doesn't mean its not worth while all the same. Why a dual axel a one ton is a one ton even with a single axel! Just asking maybe you covered it already. Oh one last thing Light bar or those hood lights to light those roads! 😊

I don’t understand why someone would go all that way to someplace that remote just to trash the place. Forecasters are right about 30% of the time in that terrain— just too many variables in precipitous terrain.

It's frustrating to see so much trash, but I also understand why people do it, I don't agree, but I understand. I mostly watch the radar and use the "forecast" as an approximation. Weather is inherently chaotic and hard to predict. Modern weather forecasting is amazingly accurate.

A Very Interesting Venture & Glad You'al Enjoy it! Glad You Have The Fuel To Burn To Find A Sight! I Live In The Very Rural Mountains On My Mountain & Those Roads That Far In Would Be Issues If Ever Had Motor Or Road Conditions Come Up. Here Is My 2 Cents Of Advice. If Your Climbing & The Motor Temp Goes Up Then Turn Your Heater In The Cab On To High! This Will Keep Your Motor Temp Down! Always, Tommy :-)

Hi Tommy, Thanks. We had a full tank and diesel nearby. I never actually had an over heating problem. I was curious about what it would do, but the truck stays within normal temps no matter what I do. Even in 100 degree temps up an 8% grade at 65 mph. I had a friend with an old Dodge Omni car that I had to run the heat all the time because of some cooling problem. It works really well!

Good evening from Godley Texas, I hope you didn't encounter any of the torrential rain and the resulting mudslides that devasted parts of Washington. I do cringe from time to time when I see you traveling in adverse weather. That tree in the road was a surprise, but not unexpected for the area. Stay safe.😎

That "storm" was actually the side of the storm that dumped all that rain in the Seattle area. We just got the edge of it and it was pretty mild. It's not for everyone, but I love traveling in challenging weather. The road we were driving was snowy, but mostly just mud under it. It looked worse than it was!

What do you do when someone is coming from the direction you’re going? Are there any pull offs?

There were some pull-offs, but there was enough room for 2 vehicles.

Quick question I am sure you probably have answered but are you running timberlands or air bags in your suspension or just the truck suspension? Also are you running a transmission cooler or maybe you might need a bigger one with it over heating like that.

@Stonyboot you said the lights were on for temps. That is probably why you were getting the comments. I ask about the suspension because I am picking up a truck hopefully on the first it has a full suspension package but asking around to people for possible additions. The company I ordered the truck camper from are pitting timberlands and a sway bar on as part of the deal.

I have Upper and Lower StableLoads as well as Bilstine 4600 shocks. I'd like to add a sway bar, but it isn't in the budget yet. Nothing was over heating, engine and transmission stayed within normal temps. I don't ever remember saying that it was over heating, but there are some comments indicating that I did. Did I say that?

Thanks. I miss the days of being untethered, we do take internet breaks, but all of our jobs depend on having internet. We also need to maintain contact with various friends and family. We have all of our backpacking equipment with us, but haven't actually used it in 2 years. We are so busy with things that its hard to keep up. Someday soon, I'll go back to nature and recharge a little.
