As a Kānaka Maoli and someone who grew up in Hawaiʻi, the H3 is the furthest thing from being a "useless megaproject." It is such a vital route to get from the North side of the island to Central , East, and West Oahu.

Another thing about the Forest City: Despite it being marketed as an energy efficient green city, the development has led to irreversible environmental damage to the Johor wetlands due to reclamation...reclamation that happened without the environmental assessment required. Plus after the reclamation happened, a nearby fishing village said there were reduced catches. And if that's not the tip of the iceberg, it is located in an Environmentally Sensitive Area Rank 1 Area (meaning no development should occur unless it's low-impact nature tourism, education, or research) *the irony just writes itself*

@Dunyaku By the way, Forest City didn't stop, in fact, it already completed. Edit: And there are several reason for it fail. Such as covid and travel restriction happen, you can't start a new city without much moving and preparation. The price of building there is also very high. Malaysian living cost and income is not at that high level, only some elites will able to affort it. How a huge city able to work out with just elites living in it? The scale of the city is too big for even all elites of Malaysia😂😂 It might have chance to develop, but definitely not now, and will take quite a long time.

@Dunyaku Without government of Malaysia, you think some outsider can just come and build such huge project in the land of Malaysia???? Edit: Esplanade Danga 88, an affiliate of the Johor People's Infrastructure Group (KPRJ) own 40 percent of the shares. You think the whole project own solely by China??

OJOU'S CUTE GIGGLE
OJOU'S CUTE GIGGLE

@The Extraterrestrial That's actually pretty decent compared to what happened in Indonesia. Let's say for example there's a bid budgeted for $30. The official will ask companies who bids for some money if they want to win the bid. Of course the company can't ask more than $30 because it's already budgeted as such. So how did company make profit? Company will deliver low quality inferior product lower than $30. This scheme happened to many vital projects such as school and other important assets like public hospital buildings. So public will get inferior products at the end. Indonesia actually have high standard for building like able to withstand earthquake and storm. But then with such corruption even a little storm, not to mention earthquake, can easily ruin the buildings. Construction companies will skimp the material for something inferior and cheaper than what actually stated in the contract. How did they go away with it? Of course by bribing the official who inspected the work. That means even more less money to use to build. But there's more, company who usually won bids will pay other companies to work the project for them for lower than the bid price and pocket the some profit. For example a company won a bid to supply 50 sets of PC to a public school with budget around IDR 100 million. Then the company will ask other company to supply in their behalf with budget around IDR 80 million. The first company who bagged the project made profit of IDR 20 million. Then the second company will ask other company the same thing for IDR 60 million. And this can go on for 3 or more layers deep.

The H3 is probably the most used road in all of Hawaii, it’s used every single day and is the fastes way from East to West and vice versa. Also it is a very small minority that doesn’t use it and I’ve never heard of anybody who doesn’t use it till I watched this video

The distance from Madrid wasn't even the biggest problem with the Ciudad Real Airport. It was the fact that it was in both a Bird Special Protection Area and an inactive (at the moment) volcanic field called the Campo de Calatrava. This made the EU block its construction until environmental measures were taken. Plus the airport already in Madrid finished a renovation in 2006 which allowed it to serve 70 million passengers a year and relieved the previous facilities. Because of this renovation, the airlines who considered flying from Ciudad Real chose Madrid instead. So there was really no need for Ciudad Real.

Ciudad Real Central would make a decent training site for first responders and military. With all that space and an unused terminal that is relatively modern, you could run realistic simulations. And there’s plenty of parking. Or an event center for world leaders/wealthy who would come in with private aircraft and want to leave immediately after. You could always add a hotel if the need was there, but some private planes are nicer than any hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

I'm currently living in Naypyitaw, Myanmar. 80% of the small population of Naypyitaw, including me, live in the urbanized areas which were villages about 500 years ago. More than 90% of the city were teak forests before 2000. Naypyitaw is six times larger than the city of New York. Now, Myanmar is in a military coup, and more people have left the capital to hide in forests in remote mountainous areas, as we are under high risk for being arrested by the military. After we win this revolution, we warmly welcome you all to pay a visit to Myanmar.

Turning wilderness and wetlands into a "green city" is not a win for the environment. Developers should turn abandoned industrial sites into green cities, but it's cheaper for well-connected developers to grab undeveloped land and bulldoze nature.

Regarding moving the capital of Myanmar from Yangon, this might be for control as much as anything else. There are many similar cases of new capitols that are very planned, particularly with straight, wide streets. A great read on this is "Seeing Like a State" by James C. Scott.

Absolutely right! Naypyitaw is the capital city of Myanmar. It is apprent that recent yangon is vehicles crowded small city. But previous 10 years of democracy regimes did nothing for such good to the best. It proved that at that time of government was the one who clean their hand from any corruptions but for the country goods merely. Yangon is now like a mouse cave with full of dirty lawlessness. Respects ur great consideration and wisdom.

I’m ok with the “Interstate” highway in Hawai’i. It does seem to be used, so it is useful. I’m ok with Yucca Mountain, also. It was blocked because Nevada Senator Harry Reid was influential. He’s out of the picture now, so it ought to be finished and used to some extent, although not exclusively. It seems to me the airport in Spain could be used as a maintenance facility for airliners, or as a storage space and demolition facility for surplus airliners. To attract tourists, it needs high-speed rail to Madrid, Seville and Valencia. Lower rates than flights to Madrid would help also. Perhaps tie-ins with tours to the southern cities.

Portions of the Yangon area will experience sea-level rise in the decades to come. Much of the city itself looks to be built on a ridge, so those parts have less to worry about aside from the wind effects of tropical storms (known as cyclones in the Indian Ocean basin), which can be downright horrific in a developing nation. Imagine the impact of 2008’s Cyclone Nargis with a higher sea level; with 5m of sea-level rise, Yangon would have no land between it and the ocean. The threat of sea-level rise will make Naypyidaw much more attractive with time.

@James hill you've gotta be brain dead to think a highway can be racist. Maybe if what you mean is that racists built the highway...but the highway itself...definitely nit racist. And either way building a highway through native land or not...is hardly racist in fact race has absolutely nothing to do with it. If white people had owned the land it was built on would it stil be a racist highway? Or is it inly racist because natives owned the land?

Forest City seems like a fantastic idea and I doubt people see it as useless. The fact is that COVID has upended the way of life for billions of people since its start in early 2020 and seems a major contributor to megaprojects on this list. I don't think that Forest City is useless but the timing of it is remarkably shitty. I can see that it will be a hit destination in the future for tourism and Singaporians but as of 2022 it needs to outlive this pandemic.

I'm hawaiian was born and raised in hawaii and still live here. No body sees the H-3 as a problem and it's super useful. There's only 4 ways you can get over or around the mountain range this freeway goes through. You can go around the whole island to the east, cut through a high hill and go around on the north west side, or take H-3 or the Wilson tunnel. The latter options are like 3 times faster because your not going through the big tourist spots like North shore and you don't have to drive all the way to Hawaii Kai and back around. All the native Hawaiians I know including myself use H-3 and almost nobody complains about it.

Hawai’i Resident and Native Hawaiian here, no idea where you got the “cursed” thing from, the only superstition we have is taking pork over that mountain for reasons relating to cultural deities. But the H-3 is definitely useful. It’s the fastest way from the east side to downtown Honolulu and the airport. Going right down the middle of the island is definitely faster than going around; that being said, the military definitely uses it. Like the video points out, it leads from MCAS K-Bay to Pearl Harbor, that’s still super useful; the national guard uses it all the time! Just recently it was used during our massive surge testing for Covid-19.

@ArtC _Droid_02 Yes, I did. My comment was based on the basic meaning of the word INTERSTATE which means "between states". This road clearly does not go between states. I am aware that INTERSTATE highway is a slang term form a road build as part of the "Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways" but this road is clearly a DEFENSE highway not an INTERSTATE highway. I have always thought of interstates as road that join states together, but even apart from that, I have always thought of them as long-distance roads at the very least, which this isn't.

@Daibhidh Robinson did you not watch the video? He literally explained that it was to create easy access between military bases. I doubt mainland or people from other countries know this cuz it’s not specific to American history. The guy who made the video also literally removed the fact that there is actually a highway connected to Honolulu. I bet this guy basically left that out cuz he didn’t have much to talk about and was a useless video

@Antimatter31 This proves why we think a God exists. Read on even if you believe in God it will only take 1 minute please.   God had to of create time; and time has a beginning,  middle, and end. So God has no beginning as time doesn't apply to him before he created it.   What created the universe? This wouldn't apply to God as God teaches it always existed and God created time so God had no beginning.   Please continue reading below, I only mean for your own good :)   Who created stars and planets if life created itself what created black holes, stars, comets, planets, lava, water, trees, the complex human brain, dreams, hallucinations, etc.   Some refute God with all the suffering in the world, but that is not right. God teaches for every difficulty he honors the person in the next life adequately. And every person suffering would actually prefer to suffer for what they get in the next life. Would you suffer from starvation for 5 years for a million dollars? Please read below.     These points really proved a God could exist to us and the point of this message isn't to convert you but just show how a God exists and get you to believe it could and not worship it.   I suggest you also believe in God for great reward. You don't spend / lose anything and you will get rewarded a lot. If you want to know more on how to worship God for more great reward in the hereafter please visit atheismisover.com and see point 4 but read the site all it will take 2 minutes. Imagine a million times the flavor of your favorite food. In paradise you get what you want so wouldn't you want to worship God to make your paradise better? Please share this message with family and friends for great reward as giving invitation to God has great reward in the next life. H3 is probably one of the mist scenic highways in America and provides a route to the windward side bypassing the likiliki and Pali highways faith the Honolulu traffic it's my preferred path from the airport to north shore. When my son was stationed Kaneohe Marine base we could get from the airport to see him using H3 faster and more convenient the only reason it's considered a disaster is cost over runs that protesters caused. The same reason we don't have s ferry to Kauai and why the 10M will be another disaster if it is ever built.
